Ever have one of those Homer Simpson ‘Doh!’ moments where it’s pointed out to you that you’ve gone brain-dead on something that should have been completely obvious? I just had one of those and it wasn’t very much fun. I’ve given some friends copies of my business card in case they run into anyone who might be interested, and from that, could have had a client if only I had thought through my web site before I launched it. You see, one of my business cards made it’s way into the hands of a chiropractor who was interested in seeing if I had any paintings he might want to use for his office but when he followed the URL on my business cards, it brought him to this blog and what does he find? Arts and crafts from everyone BUT me! Doh!

When I set up this blog, I did it as a supporting tool for my Etsy shop. I never really thought through all of the uses for it and what I would need to be ready for. At the time, I had no intention of even getting business cards and only did so because I got them for free and so didn’t really think about the effect of using this web address. Had I sat down and done the proper business planning, I would have thought through this and worked to ensure that the site fully supported my overall intentions for my business. Now I have to react to the situation, but I won’t be doing it blindly.

I will be sitting down tonight and tomorrow night and drafting the communications approach for my business. This will include how the web site plays into my overall business and communications plans. I know for certain that the site will undergo a redesign and that the blog will move to a secondary page, with my art prominently displayed on the main page, but the best way to do so and what else I may want to incorporate is still unknown until i think through the plan. In any case, changes may start occurring as quickly as this weekend! Stay tuned!
